Steps to becoming a foster parent:
- Attend an information session and email frsvp@wecas.on.ca to register and receive link for session.

- If interested in proceeding with an application form visit:
https://www.wecas.on.ca/foster-adoption-inquiry-form/ - Work with a recruiter to schedule an initial home visit.
- The recruiter will gather initial paperwork from you including the application forms and consents to complete child welfare record checks.
Complete mandatory training requirements.

- Parent Resources for Information Development and Education (PRIDE) training is required for all foster and adoption applicants. This training consists of 9 three hour sessions. PRIDE training will cover essential topics that will help you in your role as a foster parent.
- First Aid & CPR certification
- Anti-Black Racism Training
- Indigenous Cultural Competency Training
- Trauma Training
- Complete a Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE) home study
- This home study evaluation process includes multiple interviews in your home and identifies your readiness, willingness, and ability to foster a child.
- As part of the SAFE home study process you will need to undergo and provide a Broad record police clearance and a medical report from your physician to your home study worker
- The SAFE home study requires that you provide references to your home study worker
- Once these steps are completed, and it is determined that you are prepared to foster or adopt you will become an open and approved Home.

- As an open foster home, you receive the support of an assigned agency resource worker and support through the agency 24 hours a day. You are also able to seek support through the Foster Parent Association.
- Financially, you will receive a daily board rate for each day the child or youth resides in your home. Many other expenses are also covered, such as clothing, medical and dental costs, school supplies, lessons, transit fares, etc.
