From director Ajojd and executive producer Lioad.

The Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society is committed to the health and wellbeing of its staff, partners, children, youth and families that we serve and are taking precautions to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

We are continuing to deliver services but in order to maintain social distancing we are limiting access to our Windsor building. Staff will be working remotely during this time and are accessible via phone and email.

Our Leamington office is closed to the public until further notice. If you have immediate concerns about a child or youth at risk, please call 519-252-1171.

We are committed to keeping you informed and working with you to keep our communities healthy and well. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

OACAS has received notice that the Ministry has taken steps to ensure youth over the age of 18 continue to be supported through the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to promote consistency of care and continuity of service during the public health crisis.

Today the Ministry issued a new policy directive, Supporting Consistency of Care during COVID-19, and made regulatory amendments that will ensure youth in and leaving the care of Children’s Aid Societies are supported during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The policy and regulatory amendment enable Children’s Aid Societies to continue providing services to youth in and from care, whose care arrangements are scheduled to expire during the COVID-19 pandemic period, including:

  • Youth in extended society care, interim care or customary care whose in-care status will expire on their 18th birthday
  • Youth who have entered into a Voluntary Youth Services Agreement (VYSA), whose agreement will expire on their 18th birthday

The policy directive further requires CASs to continue supports to youth who have entered into Continued Care and Supports for Youth agreements (CCSY), even those turning 21.

The regulatory amendment and policy directive are both effective March 26, 2020.

OACAS and member agencies have advocated for changes to prevent youth from losing supports during the pandemic period. Please join me in thanking our ministry colleagues for their diligence in bringing about these needed changes so quickly.

We’re OPEN!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Children’s Aid Societies and Indigenous Child and Family Well-Being Agencies in Ontario ARE continuing their child protection services. We are NOT closed. Although agencies across the province have modified their business practices to respond to health and safety concerns, their core protection services continue. If any member of the public or professional have a concern about the safety and/or well-being of a child or youth under 18, they should immediately contact their local Children’s Aid Societies or Indigenous Child and Family Well-Being Agency. A list of local contact information for these agencies are available here: http://www.oacas.org/childrens-aid-child-protection/locate-a-childrens-aid-society/

A message to our donors, supporters and friends

Our work supporting children and families in need will never stop

These are unprecedented times.  Essentially, all of our lives have changed in the last couple of weeks.  The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on every aspect of our community, our country and the globe.  No one is exempt, particularly those who are most vulnerable.  Our staff, the majority who are working remotely continue to keep in touch with our families.  We are still operating around the clock assuring the safety and well-being of the children of Windsor-Essex.

To our donors and to all who wish to help.  We encourage you to join us in Strengthening Families.  That’s what we are all about, now more than ever!  Reach out to a family you know may need some support.  There are so many ways you can help.  A dose of kindness can make a world of difference!  Visit www.wecaf.on.ca to find out more about the John & Sophia Chisholm Embracing Families Fund.

There will be changes and adjustments as we see this through.  Never the less, be assured that we have served this community through good times and bad for over 100 years.  We attest to the fact that Our Children Are Our Future
